Case Study | MFA Graduate Thesis Project

Academy of Art University Graduate School of Web Design & New Media

Week 7

Presentation

The goal of this class is to translate my Project idea into something concrete so I can present it to others. I will practiced my presentation in order to "sell" my idea. I have analyzed the presentation tips that I will use to convey my ideas, demonstrate my technical skills, and express my creativity.

Public Speaking

Most people find public speaking very challenging. There is a great deal of pressure involved when you present a project in front of people. You must think quickly, and there is the possibility that things can go wrong. It can be even more challenging if you have to speak in a language other than your native one.

Public speaking does not come naturally to me, but I can learn to be successful at it. The main thing to remember is that most of the stress and fear of public speaking can be managed. When I am in a high-stress situation, my brain tends to retreat into fight-or-flight mode, which can make me anxious and confused. I may forget my ideas, lose my place, talk way too quickly, or otherwise make a bad impression on your audience.

I can control that with adequate practice and organization.

Problem-Free Presentation

A well-formulated presentation is an effective way to prove that you are confident in your Project. Through my presentation, I will show that I am organized, creative, and respectful of my audience.

Presenting online can be simple and glitch-free if you plan in advance. One advantage of giving your presentation online is that you control the environment!

Tips for a Problem-Free Online Presentation

  • Have a reliable Internet connection. Turn off any bandwidth intensive programs such as file sharing applications before you begin so that there are no disruptions.
  • Have a reliable Internet connection
  • Make sure that you are in a professional environment. You should be in a well-organized space that is appropriate for a presentation.
  • Make sure that you and your room are well lit. You want the mood to feel cheerful.
  • If you are going to show a video or any other type of multimedia file, make sure that everything works.

Innovation and creativity are the keys to making an exceptional project.

Tips for Presenting Online:
  • Be punctual.
  • Know your project.
  • Dress to impress.
  • Speak clearly.
  • Keep your slide show clear and precise.
  • Your presentation should be entertaining.
  • Utilize visual elements.
  • Respect people's time.
  • Practice.
  • Spelling and grammar is extremely important- Spell Check!

This week, I accomplished the following in preparation to present my project presentation as a 10 minute recorded slideshow with narration:

  • Analyzed the presentation process.
  • Explored example presentations.
  • Learned a few tips for presenting online.
  • Practiced my presentation in order to "sell" my idea.
  • Finalized my slide show and checked spelling.
  • Made an audio/video recording of my presentation.

  • Created a logo and all branded slides
  • Created an Experience Flow Chart for better understanding
  • Re-designed slides with color-coordination

Coming-Up Next...

Next week, I will review my progress and look at the Idea Generation:

  • Analyze ideation to production.
  • Identify information architecture and flow diagrams.
  • Define user scenarios.
  • Explore the development of task flow.
  • Define card sort.
  • Introduce proof of concept.

This blog will serve as a place to create my case study. I invite you to follow along with me as I journey through this process.

Thank you for reading and for your interest.
